Continuing a trend of unloading veterans, the Albany River Rats on Wednesday said goodbye to defenseman Derrick Walser, who was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for second-year defenseman Mark Flood.
The Rats have carried nine veterans - players who have 260 or more career games - for most of the season, and no more than five can dress per game by American Hockey League rules. The parent Carolina Hurricanes traded veteran Brad Isbister last week and Walser this week, reducing their veterans roster to seven.
Isbister and Walser have a combined 559 career NHL games.
