3Com buys stake in Zayante

ROLLING MEADOWS - 3Com Corp. said Monday it purchased an undisclosed equity stake in Zayante Inc., which 3Com said is the industry leader in IEEE 1394 High Speed Serial Bus technology. The companies plan to collaborate on the use of the technology in future 3Com high-speed home networking solutions, making it easier for consumers to connect multiple devices that share audio, video and Internet data. The technology is gaining acceptance in the consumer electronics and personal computer markets. 3Com has Rolling Meadows operations.

Unilever plans large debt sale

ROLLING MEADOWS - Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant Unilever PLC is expected to sell an equivalent $6.82 billion to $7.73 billion of bonds Wednesday to help finance its $20.3 billion purchase of U.S. foodmaker Bestfoods, bankers familiar with the sale said on Monday. Unilever is expected to sell 13-month floating-rate notes. The bond sale was increased in size from an original $6.37 billion. Unilever, maker of Dove soap, has Helene Curtis operations in Rolling Meadows.

Zurich Kemper adds new service

LONG GROVE - Zurich Kemper Life said Monday it is launching Zurich Kemper Security-T. The new term life insurance product provides beneficiaries with the additional security of a monthly income stream in conjunction with a lump-sum benefit. Beneficiaries can receive the ongoing monthly income for a length of time between 10 years and 30 years, Long Grove-based ZKL said.
